SFX - Link Resolver
SFX (Link resolver) - is a content-sensitive reference linking software product from ExLibris that inter-links databases. For library users, this means from the citation, over SFX, and to the citation text.
You will notice the SFX button when searching in databases or on-line journals licenced by the MUAS Library.
Behind it stands a Bavaria-wide link server, which from a mouse click, searches for further information on the Internet. A new window opens, and the SFX menu appears (see screenshot on the right).
Here, depending on the structure of the search database, you will find various related links which you can use by clicking on the 'Go' button:
- Volltext (full-text) of an eJournal - only possible when the full-text version is licenced through the MUAS Library
- Dokumentbestellung im Bibliotheksverbund Bayern (Bavarian Library Network) - start your interlibrary loan request. Materials that are available in a library in Munich cannot be requested
- Kostenpflichtige Dokumentlieferung (document delivery service) - you can order documents directly via Subito. After the required registration, you can order, for example, a journal article and have it sent to your home. There is a fee for this service €€
- Suche im lokalen Katalog (search in the local library catalogue) - only appears when the item is available at the MUAS via the OPAC (catalogue) of the MUAS Library
- Bestand innerhalb des Bibliotheksverbund Bayern (Bavarian Library Network) allows an interlibrary loan search using the Gateway Bayern catalogue
- Suche bei wissenschaftlichen Suchmaschinen - search by using scientific search engines
- Weitere Optionen (More Options): bottom, right-side - when available
- Abstract (abstract) of journal articles. This link is only available if a summary of the full-text is licensed by the MUAS Library.
- Inhaltsverzeichnis (table of contents) from the BVB-Aufsatzdatenbank (Bavarian Library Network - article database)
Note: Automatic transfer of your search metadata my be incompletely passed on to SFX and in some cases, it may not be possible to conduct an automatic search. In this case, please conduct an additional search in the MUAS Library OPAC (library catalogue) or Gateway Bayern (Interlibrary Loan Catalogue).
Please be aware: SFX is not activated by all journal publishers/database providers. Also, the SFX button in many research databases may be designed differently or found in different locations on the page (sometimes you may not find it until you click on an individual title).
