EZB verifies availability of electronic and print journals
The display of print in the EZB is made possible by a joint availability search in both the EZB and ZDB.
When you begin a search in the EZB for on-line journals, a list of search results is created. By clicking on the title of the desired journal, you see detail information about the title and on its availability. Here you see at a glance the type of access is available for the on-line version based on a coloured dot system, and if it is also available in print form in the library (see the image below).
Unfortunately, the display is not quite uniform. Depending on how heavily the system is used, the same situation can lead to different displays:
For each title search, the EZB will send a request to the ZDB as to whether a printed edition of the journal is available at the library.
A quick answer from the ZDB:
- Nothing is displayed when there is no print copy
- If the print copy is available, the icon for the printed copy and location list is displayed just below the license information for the on-line journal
- If the print copy has been subscribed to more than once, the link 'also in print?' and the icon for the printed copy. If you then scroll down to the page width, or click the link, you will see the which library and where in the library the print version is located.(Please be aware the journal with the shelfmark/call number ".. no sign" is not accessible)
When you do not receive an answer after 3 seconds, you will receive the message, "also available in print". In this case, click on the New Search link on the Journals Online & Print. A new window will open with information about the availability of both the online and print journal.
